As we were approaching the New Year, I felt compelled to make changes to the the way our home looks (again) and as usual, Laurent’s room is my favourite place to experiment with new decor ideas 🙂

 As Laurent’s collection of toys and books grow over the year, I knew one of my priorities for the room revamp is to get useful and good-looking storage solutions and to create a conducive and comfortable reading nook where I can read to him before  his bedtime.

I have been conceptualising and looking around for the items for a few months before Skycart approached me to try out their service. Skycart is a shopping partner; helping customers buy from online shops based overseas with an additional layer of trust and security.

Now, Wayne is WAYYYYY more into online shopping than me (for real) because I’m pretty bad at visualising and I always felt the need to see and feel the actual items before making my purchases. Besides buying a few things which I can’t get locally off Amazon, I rarely make any purchases from overseas website nowadays. And Taobao?! I stayed far far away because I have no idea how it worked (please tell me I’m not the only one?) and (almost) everything is in Chinese.

So when Skycart was discussing with me about our collaboration, I thought may be a good idea to try using their service to get some of the items which I came across online for Laurent’s room revamp!

Here’s a look at Laurent’s newly revamped bedroom!

All the items here, except for the cot and its contents, are bought online using the service of Skycart 🙂

The bookshelf at the corner was bought at less S$56.67 (excl shipping) and I remember a similar one costing close to $200 locally. The nicely-sized bookshelf, together with the super adorable sheep baby playmat, makes the perfect reading corner for Laurent 🙂

When he is at home during the day, he will sometimes pop into his room, grab a random book (his current favorite is the Peppa Pig book which gives out OINKS when he presses a button), and sit on the comfy playmat to enjoy a reading session 🙂 Before bedtime, he will be lying down on the playmat with his night feed while I read to him.

The adorable drawstring storage bags are also extremely useful for keeping all his odd-shaped toys out of sight and add a little character to his room.

I kept the colour scheme of his room mainly to black and white because this is mostly his bedroom so I didn’t want to have too many colours in it, stimulating him. It’s also because I’m not too adventurous in decorating with colours so having a monochromatic scheme is a safer option for me 🙂

process & Customer service

The process of shopping with Skycart was quite a breeze (much to my relief), but I would still advise you to check out their guide and video on how to shop through Skycart before you proceed with you shopping because you may be a little confused about the process until you actually go through it!

But if you do have any questions, don’t hesitate to click on the Help (Live Chat) button at the side of the page or email them because their friendly staff are always available to help! I even asked them to help me find items online based on photos that I have from Pinterest/ Instagram 😛

shipment & delivery

My total shipping cost for all the items bought, including a HUGEASS teepee tent (not pictured) cost less than $50*, delivered all the way to my doorstep. *The agent fee of $14.40 was refunded because Skycart promised to have no service charge till 2.2.2016 (i.e. SHOP NOW!!).

My items took about a month to reach me (ordered on 11 Nov and arrived mid-Dec), but I won’t consider it to have taken VERY long because I made my purchases during the super hyped up 11.11 sale (which I didn’t manage to get much discount from the sellers) and I chose to ship via sea as I was worried that my bulky items (book shelf and teepee tent) will cost a lot more if shipped by air.

I personally would have preferred to know, at least a rough gauge, of the total shipping cost before I make payment so I can better choose my shipping method and take the shipping cost into consideration for my purchases.

They do provide a chart on their shipping rate, though, so if you know the weight of your  items, you probably could calculate them yourself (I was just too lazy) 🙂 They have a variety of shipping and delivery option, you can even choose to do a self-collection at their warehouse or one of their many convenient collection points to save on delivery cost!

overall experience

Overall, I had a really positive experience shopping with Skycart, their customer service were prompt and polite, someone was always there to assist me when I have any queries or if I needed them to check with the sellers on some details. Furthermore, I was able to enjoy a huge saving by purchasing all the items I needed to revamp Laurent’s room online!

Currently, they are focusing on China shopping sites like Taobao/Tmall so if you have been wanting to purchase stuff off these websites but are a little apprehensive or believe you will feel more at ease with someone to help you with the purchases and settle the shipment for you, I would highly recommend giving Skycart a try 🙂
