Baby L – Us at 6 months old

I know I’ve been repeating it for the umpteenth time but I can’t help lamenting on how fast time is passing and how quickly Laurent is growing up! He has now past the half-way mark of his status as a baby and looking at him everyday, I almost didn’t realise how much he has changed and grown! Where did all the baby-ness go?! He almost look like a big boy now *teary eyes*…

6months

And speaking of changes, since the last update, Laurent has had a few new experiences, hit some new milestones and is now on 1 solid meal a day!

NEW EXPERIENCES

First Play Date

I met up with Jiayi for high-tea one afternoon and we brought the boys along. It’s amazing how much fun the 2 little boys seemed to be having!

First Trip to the Zoo

We had a family trip to the zoo on 7 Dec 14 because granny wanted to go and see the tiger (yup, that’s my grandmama). Laurent slept for most part of the trip and may be a little to young to truly enjoy the experience, but I personally enjoyed it! It’s the first time the entire family went on such an excursion together 🙂 Hope we’ll have the chance to do it again when Laurent is slightly older.

Breakfast Date

I’ll usually have very simple breakfasts at home, but there was one morning when we were both up really early so we got ready and went on a breakfast date at Paris Baguette, just my little man and me! Laurent was really cooperative that day and fell asleep on the sofa just before my food came so I got to eat in peace and enjoy some precious me-time at the almost empty cafe 🙂

First Christmas

The previous Christmas, we were holding on to my Week 9 ultrasound scan, looking forward to spending the day with Laurent the following year and imagining how he looks like and what will his personality be.

And for this Christmas, he was right here with us, sitting under the Christmas tree, our little gift from God, bring us joy and making the season extra merry 🙂

First Time at the Baby Spa

We’ve meant to bring him to the baby spa much earlier but had never found an opportune time to do so. He only got to try it for the first time at 5 months, and he loved it! He was spinning around like some aqua acrobats and the whole time, that Kylie Minogue kept playing in my mind 😀

First Attempt at taking Passport Photo

Laurent loves the camera, so I thought it wouldn’t be too tough to take a nice passport photo for him. I mean, he just have to stay expressionless or give a dainty little smile and ‘snap’, we’re done! How tough right?

IMG_4978

Right. I forgot, he’s a little drama king.

After close to 30 photos, I finally managed to get 1 decent looking photo of him which is not in some funny, cinematic expression.

Yay to passport!

New Milestones

Crawling Attempts

Laurent flipped over for the first time just before he turned 4 months and since around 5 months, he has been propping up his butt, almost like in Child’s Pose!

Recently, he has also been inching… backwards.

IMG_4979

He looks like he was trying to clean the floor for me but in reality, he just got himself stuck under the sofa while inching backwards, AWAY from his toy which I placed right in front of him…

Hope he’ll get his acceleration and reverse all figured out soon!

First Little Tooth

I didn’t realise his little tooth was out until a few days before he turned 6 months. I was expecting loss of appetite, diarrhoea, cranky baby and all the drama that came with teething. But the teeth just popped out so “quietly”, I didn’t realise its presence till he ‘munched’ on my finger 1 day.

Thank God teething was a breeze this time round!

Sleeping Alone

Laurent had been sleeping in our room since he was born because we did not have a proper baby room back at our old place. Wayne and I discussed and decided to let him try sleeping in his own room after we move to our new place since he will have a room to himself.

He slept next to our bed for a couple of weeks to let him get used to the new place before we wheeled his cot into his room. He has been sleeping on his own for close to 2 weeks now and seemed to have gotten accustomed to sleeping alone.

He used to be able to go back to sleep in his cot after his 7am milk, but since sleeping in his own room, he will only falls back to sleep if I place him next to me in our bed. I guess he still miss sleeping in the same room as us 🙂

Mastering the Art of Eating

The grandmamas have been asking us to start him on solid since 4 months, but we wanted to wait till we think he is more ready. When we noticed that he has been showing great interest in our food (and even attempt to grab them), is able to hold his head up firmly while seated, stopped trying to push things out with his tongue and still cries for food after 180ml of milk every 4 hours, we decided to let him try his first solid meal.

His daddy just received his sous vide machine so this sous vide pumpkin mash was the first thing his daddy cooked using his new toy! Using sous vide for baby food is great because it locks in all the nutrients and flavour while allowing the food to be cooked thoroughly 🙂

He has now taken potato, avocado (which he doesn’t have much liking for), papaya, dragon fruit, carrots, apple, oat as well as meat and fish porridge.

More about his adventure with solids next time before this post gets far too lengthy!

As I summarise all these changes and developments into one single post and look at the little boy next to me, I made a note to myself, to cherish every single moment with him, every single hug we share and every single kiss we give to each other.

Thank God for watching over this little man and for guiding him, and us, through all the new milestones smoothly. While I look back at the past months in nostalgia, I’m all psyched up to experience the new adventures that the coming months will bring!
