[Brand Feature] SG50 EZ-Link Card Design Art Competition

9th of August is our “paktor” anniversary and this year’s national day marked our 8th year together as a couple!

This year’s national day is extra, extra special because… 1) SG50!! And 2) We now have ANOTHER someone special sharing this day with us 🙂

We donned the reddest red we could find in our wardrobe (we didn’t manage to get the home kit for Laurent so he ended up in white 😛 ) and went for lunch at the Sports Hub before joining my family for dinner while watching NDP.

While we were out, there were signs at all the MRT station’s exits reminding us that all rides are free that day and streams of crowd dressed in red and white were passing through the permanently opened gantries without the need to tap their EZ-Link cards.

What a brilliant way to celebrate the nation’s Golden Jubilee 😀

But on every other day, our EZ-Link cards are amongst the first things we see and use. For many of us, the tapping of our EZ-Link cards mark the start of our day and the start of our journey (well, quite literally).

The EZ-Link card which I own is also a credit card so it’s rather plain-looking, but how nice will it be if it comes in a form of a mini beautiful art piece and has a special meaning behind it!

To commemorate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee, EZ-Link held a nation-wide “My Journey, My Home” Card Design Art Competition which called for budding artists to express in their own creative and inspiring ways, what SG50 means to them.

4 winning designs were selected and unveiled on 3 August 2015 at the Awards Ceremony which was graced by Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, who was also the Guest-of-Honour.

The top four winning designs have been printed on 200,000 ez-link cards which went on sale from 4 August 2015 onwards at TransitLink Ticket Offices island-wide in the following order:

Tang Chun Kit Matthew Hubert, 11 years old (DAS Category, aged 12 or below)

William Choo, 15 years old (DAS Category, aged 13 to 25)

Neo Hui-Shyan, 11 years old (Open Category, aged 12 or below)

Nur Amalia Bte Kamal, 16 years old (Open Category, aged 13 to 25)

These are truly beautiful pieces of art and they are made even more significant and meaningful because EZ-Link will contribute $0.25 to Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) for every card sold, with an aim of raising a total of S$50,000 to provide financial assistance to students with dyslexia at the primary and secondary levels from non-MOE funded schools who do not receive MOE grants for DAS programmes.

Won’t it be an amazing feeling to look at one of these beautiful art pieces before your daily commute every morning and be reminded that you made a difference by supporting our young budding artists, own something which celebrates Singapore’s 50 years of achievement and contributed to DAS in helping to support the learning of their students?

Thank you EZ-Link for coming up with such a meaningful campaign 🙂 Here’s what I would have submitted if I had the chance to participate in the contest!

Hurry down to your nearest TransitLink Ticket Office to get one (or ALL) of these unique and beautiful EZ-Link cards before they run out! And don’t forget to check out the EZ-Link Facebook page for more info and images of the contest 🙂
