[Blog Train] Day in a Life of…

If you have been following my blog, you would have known that Laurent has already started on Infant Care and no, I’m not leading a tai tai life (sadly).

I started working the very first day we left Laurent at the Childcare, which means I’ve officially been a full-time working mum (FTWM) for more than a month!

Days as a Stay at Home Mum (SAHM) and FTWM can be rather different and they bring about different elements of joy 🙂

If you’re curious, you can check out how I used to spend my day as a SAHM in this post.

Here’s what a typical weekday is like for me as a FTWM!

6.30am – Alarm goes off

If I’m lucky enough, it will be my iPhone alarm which rouses me from my sleep, other wise, it will be the little man in the other room calling out for attention. I’ll feed the little one and let him sleep a little longer after his morning meal.

6.45am – Wash-up and Work Out

This year, I’ve added a step to my morning routine. I’ll take lemon water first thing in the morning before I brush my teeth (google “benefits of lemon water” to find out more). I’ll prepare the lemon juice weekly and store them in a glass jar to be added into warm water so that I don’t have to fumble with squeezing lemons every morning in my nebulous, half-awake state. Well, a minute saved is a minute gained in your morning routine!

Next I’ll wash-up and change into my exercise gear for a light home workout. The workout can be anything from yoga, barre, dance to HIIT. Just whatever I can find on youtube that rocks my socks that morning.

Recently, I’m trying out a 30-day yoga challenge and I hope I can stick with that for the month!

7.15am – Cool down and Shower

While I wait for my body to cool down completely, I go around the house to pick up any random items lying around and try to tidy up the place a little and taking out clean laundry from the night before. Otherwise, I will be packing Laurent’s baby bag if I haven’t done so the night before.

I’ll then have my shower and diligently go through my skin care routine.

7.45am – Wake the Hubs, Prep the Bubs

And this whole time, the husband is still in lala-land.

So after I’m done with my prep, I’ll wake him up and prepare Laurent for infant care.

815am – Out the Door

On good days, we are able to leave the house around 8-815am and join the army of commuters on KPE (honestly, I dream that one day everyone can telecommute).

While we’re in line inching towards our exit, I’ll read out the Daily Bread verse and article for the day and say a family prayer together.

We’ll drop Laurent off at the infant care before continuing on our way to work (we work together so commuting to work is more convenient and pleasurable).

9am – The daily grind

We’ll usually have breakfast in office and I try to have granola with fruits and yoghurt for 2-3 days in the week.

If there is nothing too urgent, I try to catch up on some news and look plan my day.

Then the work day begins.

12ish – Lunch

Lunch isn’t too exciting at our current workplace because we usually buy/ order back as a group (so no post-lunch stroll at nearby malls, which I miss!).

After taking lunch, I’ll make myself a cup of green tea, put on some bossa and enjoy some down-time to let my blood divert its flow back to my brain.

I find it useful to schedule some down-time, especially after lunch. It works like a siesta, just that I’ll be scouring through my social media channels or blogging rather than napping. It helps to curb my urge to refresh my FB or Instagram every few mins until my next break.

6pm – Knock-off

The work day is done and we’re off to pick up the baby! I look forward to that first instant when Laurent sees us at the infant care because his smile is always the brightest then!

Some days we will go over to my parents-in-law’s place for dinner, other days we will be out to run some errands or just shop around.

10pm – Home Sweet Home

Regardless of our evening plans, we try to be home no later than 10pm.

I’ll give Laurent a quick wipe-down, change him, give him his night feed around 11pm and put him to bed.

If we’re home early, we’ll let him play a little while I try to do some light house work like magic mopping/ dusting/ folding clothes (there are ALWAYS clothes to be folded). I’ll then prepare his baby bag for the next day and put in a load of dirty laundry into the washer on delay start, to be done by the next morning.

1130pm – ME TIME

Besides in the morning before everyone is up, this is another pocket of sacred time for me.

I’ll have a warm shower, turn on my diffuser with some lavender essence oil and recline into my cosy corner with a good book in hand and legs in my OSIM massager. Heavenly~!!

12pm – Dreamland Awaits

I’m trying to get at least 6 hours of sleep so I try not to stay awake after 1230pm. But of course, there are days where an interesting book, intriguing thought or engaging conversation with Wayne is far more important.

And then, the cycle starts again!
